Where it starts

You stare into the blank page as it stares straight back into your eyes. You feel the caterpillar-like movement of shivers down your spine. You find reasons to not sit down and write.

And when you do manage to attempt writing, it's not quite right. It's not what you really mean to say.

And where do you even begin? What do you even write about? There are so many people with differing and even contradictory advice on what to write about. Who do you even listen to?

The pressure to write the perfect essay, the pressure to perform, the pressure that so often drives people to write something based on others' perceived expectations very often results in you forgetting your true voice.

My own essay

Who is susceptible to writing a performative essay? An overworked student with darkening circles underneath their eyes, churning out grey hair in their sleep. The stress of trying too hard to impress someone.

That was me at one point in time. I was the first one in my family to go to college, and learned about admissions entirely on my own. I read every book I could find on college admission essays (highlighted and with notes, of course). I tried so hard to be "unique", "quirky", to write what I thought would stand out in the admissions counselor's mind.

That resulted in my performative essay onnnnn (drumroll please) how I once saved a cockroach from dying. Yes, I know. :)

But somehow when I wrote my supplement essays, I let something else flow through me. I actually enjoyed it for the most part. I tapped into what was alive within me, and what came out was my fascination with nature and life around me. I wrote in awe and vivid detail of how sand crabs carve their little homes in the shoreline of the ocean. The connection between "small" things and "big" things. The oneness of life, the colors of my attention, how my cells came alive when I was immersed in the wonders of nature.

I got admitted into almost all the colleges I applied to. I had top grades and very strong leadership roles, leading amongst the largest fundraising and nonprofit projects in the history of my school.

A year later, when I got coffee with someone from the admissions team, what he still remembered was my essay about sand crabs.

Learning to Listen to Yourself

In this five-week mentorship, I help guide you to listen to yourself. An anthropological excavation into what makes you come alive. We find the real thing beneath what you think someone else wants to hear.

An admissions counselor reading hundreds of essays a day is not looking for a generic, formulated essay. They are looking for writing where they can feel your passion through the osmosis of a computer screen. Where they can feel the texture of your soul through the words you write. An essay that changes the way they look at the world, because they just saw it through yours.

What we are all looking for, in essays or in life (hah), is learning to belong to yourself and express your truest essence. I've spent all my life doing that with myself and helping others do the same.

  • IB Diploma 41/45President of three service nonprofits
  • Magna cum laudeAnthropology, Tufts University
  • Oxford UniversityVisiting student, top marks in every tutorial

I am an avid intellectual in the matters of both brain and soul. I graduated as Salutatorian from Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, scored a 41/45 on my IB Diploma and served as president of three service nonprofit organizations in my school. I went on to study anthropology (study of human behavior and its intersection with culture) at Tufts University, graduating magna cum laude. In my junior year I was admitted into Oxford University as a visiting student. I scored top marks on all my tutorials that included creative writing and also a master's-level course on medical anthropology.

An anthropologist does not just look at the surface, she dives deep into patterns both simple and complex and the dance between micro and macro. How the small details are intertwined with bigger patterns or systems. How one person is a result of the range of influences they are exposed to and vice versa.

We look at systems, oppression, history, modern day, patterns. The key word is patterns. We are trained to see things that most people will not see on the surface.

I did not just study anthropology to analyze, think and write critically about human culture, behavior and systems, but I then went on to observe and create my own map of my patterns and inner workings.

After I graduated college, I left the known path.

Almost nine years

  • Seeker, teacher, mentorIsha Yoga Center, South India
  • 700+in one hall, learning classical hatha yoga
  • Somatic coachin training now

My heart led me to Sadhguru's Isha Yoga Center ashram in South India. My love for spirituality, curiosity for this being and inner transformation led me to living there as a full-time volunteer for almost 9 years. First and foremost as a spiritual seeker, a teacher and later, a mentor. I organized large scale programs, taught classical hatha yoga to a hall of over 700 people, and was a mentor to people who came for long-term residential programs all over the world.

I spent long periods in silence, and long periods in intense activity that has transformed me completely.

I bring that depth and care to this mentorship with college essays. My love for writing and art, and helping you connect with what is true within you, and putting it down on paper. That is my lived experience.

Following my heart, I moved back to Thailand last year, carving out a new life path immersed in both spirituality and serving others around me.

I am currently undergoing training as a somatic coach, to help others notice patterns within themselves and learn to listen to their inner knowing, and guide them back to self-trust. This is also my lived experience of my lifelong journey of continuously learning to create a safe space for every emotion that arises in the body and inhabiting deep acceptance.

Everything I do is to help people return to themselves. Because that is my exact journey and deepest passion.

A Gentle, Self-Compassionate Approach

You cannot write something true and alive from a state of stress. I know what it is like when ambitious goals also stunt and leave you frozen.

When the neurons in your brain all tense up and freeze, we don't push through. We pause. We listen lovingly to what your being is telling you. We let the pressure settle so your own voice has room to surface. And when it does it will feel just as effortless as the ocean lifting you up as you resurface after a deep dive.

I create a safe space of deep presence to help guide you to find your voice. You are allowed to drop the performance here. You are welcomed exactly as you are.

This is a deep mentorship, not an editing service.

And then we put it on the page

Not only do we learn to listen to what is authentic within us, we also put it out with craft and finesse on paper.

My love for the spoken and written word goes back as far as I can remember. From the books I disappeared into as a child. The speech I gave at the Bangkok Rotary Club in 10th grade. Spoken word poetry at Tufts and Oxford. Curating content and conducting sessions for hundreds of people at a time while living at the ashram. I have spent my life immersed in the art of communication.

It is a craft to bring your heart-song into form, and it is a passion of mine to connect the two. To bring your authentic self alive on the page.

Integrity is at the crux of what I do.

  • I do not write college essays for you.

  • I do not guarantee admissions. Nobody can. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is selling you something with no basis.

  • I am not someone who will force anyone to do anything they don't want to. I need to see the same level of eagerness from you. Only then can we truly create something wonderful!

How the Mentorship Works

Open any session to read what happens in it.

Session 1

Discover

We talk. I ask questions, listen for patterns and explore the experiences, interests and details that make you come alive.

Session 2

Shape

We choose the strongest direction and begin giving your story structure.

Session 3

Develop

We work deeply with your first draft - what's working, what's missing and what the essay is really trying to say.

Session 4

Refine

We strengthen voice, specificity, pacing, reflection and language.

Session 5

Finish

We bring everything together and give the essay its final refinement.

Depending on the needs of the student, we may even spend the first two weeks brainstorming and exploring. Or we may spend just half a session. The sessions will be individually curated to your needs and what is best for your learning and writing style.

And in between our sessions, I read your latest draft before we meet, so that our time together is always yours.
